Even from the beginning of this course, before I even met my professor, I heard horror stories of the ridiculous amounts of work that would be assigned. Not only that, but I also heard stories of the crazy state of mind said professor was in. I signed up for this course for two reasons. One, I like challenges, moreso I like to overcome challenges that I hear stump others. Two, I knew that if this professor was this HARD and people still took him, he must be one hell of a fucking teacher. From the first time I met Dr. Harrison, I knew I had chosen the right class. Even on his most basic level, Dr. Harrison is the most interesting individual I’ve ever met.

As of now, I really don’t have any specific goals as a researcher other than just noticing random things that could make amazing research papers. I am a full-time college student and cannot really pursue any fullscale research projects as of now. But I can say that I can see myself writing many more research papers in the future, whether it be for my career or just out of general research.

My proudest moment in the course I must say is at the end of our last class of the course, Dr. Harrison asked us to think about someone else in the class that either directly or indirectly motivated us. I was quite surprised to hear that my confidence to speak up in class and just being a friendly person actually motivated at least 4 other people!! I would have never guessed that I helped others succeed in their academic careers! That activity really made me swell up with pride and motivated me to be an even friendlier and happier person altogether! From all of this course I think that just the mentality that everyone of us is a writer will stick with me the most. Whether your write a 10 page blog, or a 5 line poem, you are a writer through and through! :)

In creating my research paper, the most document that I came across would have to be the guide for writing a research paper. http://www.languages.ait.ac.th/el21meth.htm   I always found myself coming back to this webpage for guidance because it clearly lays out what is exactly needed when approaching a research paper. The most difficult feedback I got for my paper was from the anonymous peer review we did in class. My peer review was quite harsh with his/her review but I appreciated that because it truly showed me what I needed to do to fix my paper.  The most difficult thing for me while starting my draft was just starting in general. I was really anxious and afraid because I did not know where exactly to start. To tackle such a large thing as a research paper in one attempt is disheartening. But when I realized the concept of *shitty* first drafts, I just wrote whatever came to mind knowing that I could always come back and fix it. The easiest part I felt was going back to my paper and fixing it little by little. I feel it’s alot easier to fix something once it exists rather than attempt to make something perfect on the first try. I believe that my final essay shows my prestige as a writer by the way I portray myself. I tried really hard to portray myself as a professional on my subject and also use very high level language and dialect. With this, I attempted to prove to my audience that I really know what I’m talking about.

Well unfortunately from my first peer review, my partner did not ever give my paper back so I didn’t learn much about my paper. But when it comes to his paper, I learned a little about how it feels to grade someone’s elses work. As well, I felt good about the mistakes he made because it made me realize that everyone in the class is gonna be making mistakes. That no one is perfect and everyone needs to fix their shit up a little. From my partner’s paper I also learned about his subject. I was really interested and can’t wait to see what else he plans to write. It really shocked me when I realized how unique everybody’s papers are gonna be and I wish them good results when they do their actual research. I hope they all get really good results because I’d love to hear what they found.

When I look back at my original paper and then how I fixed it to flow together nicely, alot of things came to mind. First of all, it’s a totally different thing to write each part of a paper separately rather than all as one thing. When I took all the parts of my paper and put them together, it didn’t make sense at all. I had to go back and rewrite a good bit of my beginning parts of my paragraphs and the endings too. With all that rewritten, my paper was starting to come together and look like a nicely flowing research paper. At this point, the most editing is probably gonna be attributed to my literature review section. Just putting more information in there and making it flow nicely is gonna be tough. From here, I need to go get my survey out and about, look over the results and write about that. I find it difficult to try and formulate questions that I think will extract the information I’m looking for. But than again, I’m not trying to prove a point either way, I’m just trying to see what people’s thoughts are on a certain subject and see if they corrolate to others’ thoughts.

For my paper, my participants will consist of 10 random IUP students whom happen to choose to fill out the survey I plan to hand out. Also, I plan to give my survey to 1 Comp Sci professor that teaches at IUP. I plan to ask them a set of questions that will delve into their knowledge about hackers motivations. I want to see what common college kids these days know and think what the motivations are of hackers. Then I plan to compare those to the educated knowledge of a Comp Sci professor’s answers to what are the motivations of hackers. As for privacy, I don’t think anyone will want their names hidden because my subject isn’t controversial.

Purpose

  • One must know how data was collected because it changes the results.
  • Methods should also mention what problems arose during data collection period.
  • One must choose the correct method of data collection for his/her project.

Problems

  • Your paper shouldn’t be a *manual* and shouldn’t describe step by step simple things. Being a bit more broad for those sections is ok.
  • When problems are reached, don’t just overlook them, explain how you solved them and also any processes that helped overcome problems.

Summary

  1. The methods help prove how legit the research done in a study is.
  2. Your methods is a general description of the actual way you plan to find your information.
  3. The methods section is essentially the most important part of your paper because readers will decide off of this section whether your research is valid or not.

The purpose of this method is to show my readers how I plan to find my information about my research subject and also how I plan to analysis said information. I hope to get a good basis down for my methodology and also leave some space to improve as always. I’m preparing this methodology for anyone who chooses to read my paper. My paper as a whole is more simplisitic and open rather then specified for a select few to understand. I believe that more will be able to benefit from it this way.
